Mr Fairley is really creepy. When they're in the cab together, he keeps getting so close to her when he talks and I kept thinking how awful it must have been for Gene Tierney to have him breathing all over her. Imagine if he had onions for lunch! Poor Gene! Also I think I've figured out something about these old movies. When a man says he's in love with someone after only seeing them for a couple minutes, it actually means that they would like to sleep with them. Social conventions prevents him from approaching her any other way so it always comes down to love. This film really taps into something visceral for the woman that's attracted to the bad boy even though she knows he's probably not the one she should be with.
