I really don't know how the director managed to do the violin playing scenes because as i red in the Wikipedia , it was isaac sterns hands which was playing the violin not Garfields , however it is so believable that one can't distinguish the montage!!

I read that many years after seeing the movie and have since tried to find the editing and it is so well done, you can't tell. I think John Garfield is an AMAZING actor. I wonder if he had lived, if he would be named among the greats with Cary, Bogie, etc. He was Brando before Brando and paved the way for the tough guy who was also complex and vulnerable. Just love him!!

I really think he is one of the most underrated acting talents Hollywood has ever produced. He makes me think I'm him...especially in this movie...his relationship with his mother and his friend ...,

I had to make a John Garfield Channel. He passed so suddenly and so young that he is forgotten by many that aren't as into these classics as we are. And on top of it all, he was a wonderful man. Both Bette Davis (who he worked with tirelessly at the Hollywood Canteen during the war), Joan, and Lana Turner had such terrific things to say about him. "The Postman Always Rings Twice" is as good as it gets, but I have watched all his films, and he is perfect!
