It's always fascinating to see young actors at the beginning of their careers and be amazed at how their careers would develop later. Would some be "one-hit-wonders" or would they grow up to be "major stars of the silver screen?" Would they be "leading men/women" or "character actors" that you'd always see, but never quite know their names? These leads are just babies here. If they only knew how far their careers would go. The beauty of hindsight through the looking glass.

P.S. As I noticed with an earlier 1938 film, also staring Fred MacMurray, it's amazing to see a 1936 color film so cleanly restored.

Seeing Beulah Bondi in this film (a homely woman who played "mountain folk" and lower class folk often) and listening to the singing at the beginning of this film and the girl running through the stones and pine trees reminds me of the John Wayne and Harry Carey film "Shepherd of the Hills" (1941, also in color).

And when that kid ran across the log into a close-up, I couldn't help but recognize George "Spanky" McFarland as "Buddie Tolliver."

It's amazing how films like this had a stable of reliable actors to use. I knew that I recognized Henry Brandon in this film. A fascinating actor, famous to be for playing Mr. Barnaby Barnicle in Laurel & Hardy's "March of the Wooden Soldiers."

Again like the "Shepherd of the Hills," Samuel S. Hinds was the sheriff in that film too a and Fuzzy Knight (as "Mr. Palestrom" ) sings.

the year 1936 could have a colourized movie.. as even after it there were so many movies made in b/w

This was indeed filmed in color. B/W filmmaking continued because Technicolor was expensive.
Steve Burstein
Note they hadn't even filmed color logos yet.

Even I was surprised to see this movie in colour version.. as there were so many movies of later years were in black and white.

the problem was that THENICILOR company was the only one to develop color films so they been always under pressure to develop films and movie clips until mid 50 when television was common in all the houses and coupe of big studios organized special department for color films like MERRO COLOR and WARNER COLOR AND etch

Actually Beulah Bondi was a very diverse actress who played character roles mostly - mothers; also wealthy ones, not just mountain folk, or 'lower class'. Her career in the movies just didn't start till she was around 40, so 'leading lady' parts weren't in the writing for her.
